OPEN CALL: EMERGING CONCEPTS Edition

EMERGING CONCEPTS Edition - Call for Submissions 2019
July 1 - September 1, 2019
The call is open for applicants from the following countries: Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia.

Submission is free.

PrivatePrint is an art book publishing house and a studio for interdisciplinary research and practices in contemporary art and graphic design from Skopje, North Macedonia. Since 2016, our practice is dedicated to editing, creating and supporting artists’ books, artistic and curatorial research projects, artists’ writings and related publications. Based on the premise that art and publishing are the perfect match for the democratization of culture, our mission is to disseminate artistic ideas and to make them easily available. The founders and editors-in-chief of PrivatePrint are Marija Hristova and Ilija Prokopiev.

EMERGING CONCEPTS is a new publication edition by PrivatePrint aiming to create a library of books created upon art-based interpretations and approaches of pressing social, cultural and political topics. This edition supports outputs based on theory-in-practice research, critical and interdisciplinary projects using visual, graphic, documentary or textual materials. Regardless of the media of expression, it is important that the submitted proposals apply an experimental approach to the topics in the open call. This edition does not support fiction (novels, short stories, poetry) and purely academic works.

The edition is planned to be developed through periodical open calls. The fields of interest will change with each open call.

Fields of interest for 2019:

This open call is focused on proposed projects developed in the context of feminist and queer art or criticism. We are welcoming projects that shed new light to these fields of interest, specific to the context that the applicants are working and living in.

Application Requirements:

- Project proposal (no longer than 2 pages) - collaborative proposals are also eligible
- Report on the status of the project at the moment of applying, including provisional timeline for completing the work (no longer than 1 page)
- A PDF with presentation of the proposed work (draft of the work-in-progress, sample pages or images)
- CV (PDF or website)

Project Development and Timeline:

The proposed projects should be developed beyond the idea phase and contain concrete premises to be published into a book. Upon selection, the working process will be conducted in collaboration with PrivatePrint's editor-in-chief. Please note that the working language is English and all the materials connected to the book, as well as the book itself are published in English.

The completion of the materials and the editorial process will be finished no later than 31 January 2020. The date of publication release is no later than 30 April 2020.

Support:

Up to two projects will be selected and published under PrivatePrint's imprint. The printing costs for the publications will be fully covered by PrivatePrint as well as layout and project assistance from a graphic designer. Book launch at PrivatePrint Studio, promotion at art book fairs and distribution are also fully organized by PrivatePrint.

Author/s will receive 10% of the edition.

Want to support our activities? Learn how you can do that!

By supporting us you are supporting the young and progressive art scene that’s struggling for visibility, funds and a space for expression within the cultural scene.
As the first independent art book publisher in Skopje, North Macedonia established back in 2016 PrivatePrint aims to publish and support artists’ books and emerging artists that work outside the established institutional frames. From the very beginning, parallel to its publishing program a versatile nonprofit program developed including exhibitions, promotions, international presentations, blog and online activities etc. This program represents the start of PrivatePrint Studio as an art and exhibition space, which was then officially established as an association in 2018 in order to further develop its mission. The Studio’s activities aim to create a platform for research and presentation of art books, design and other media of expression in contemporary art seen in a larger socio-cultural context. It provides better visibility and interconnection of artists and artistic practices in the local context as well as exchange of ideas internationally.
Therefore we need your support to maintain the running of the studio and open up more possibilities for emerging artists to develop and present their work.
You can donate, become a sponsor or apply for a year subscription of PrivatePrint’s publications! Read more below and contact us!
