What if a city could be treated like a case—unsolved, open-ended, and full of quiet clues? This workshop invites you to explore Skopje through a series of intuitive, speculative, and playful exercises drawn from the artist’s own practice: a blend of dérive, magical thinking, and observational drift.
Rather than seeking clear answers, we will embrace contradiction, coincidence, and the poetic logic of curiosity. Together, we will engage in acts of gentle investigation—following stray dogs, knocking on monuments, tracing invisible connections—to sharpen our attention to the minor disturbances and layered narratives of everyday life.
Participants will experience how self-imposed agendas can shift perception, how personal observation intertwines with broader context, and how to navigate a city not as a fixed structure but as a living, responsive map of meaning. The goal is not to solve Skopje, but to read it slantwise—with care, doubt, and curiosity.
Judith Milz is taking a four-week residency in Skopje as an opportunity to gently misread the city. The four workshops are part of her observation processes, and participants are invited to try out different artistic techniques to investigate urban appearances. With the help of Johanna Schäfer, all findings might end up in a non-conclusive publication.
>> Everyone is invited to participate, and you can invite a friend. Please register with a message (DM or marija@privateprint.mk) to let us know which date you’re joining (see dates above). We’ll reveal the meeting place only to the people who register. You can register for multiple dates.
